To investigate the behavioral aspects of production planning, my thesis consists of a dichotomous structure motivated by different research methodologies. While Project I provides a systematic literature review and discusses research gaps, Project II focuses on an empirical study based on laboratory experiments. Thus, the thesis consists of different research methodologies in the field of production planning and control (PPC), while applying a behavioral operations (BeOps) perspective. Against the backdrop of a profound introduction to BeOps and a systematized framework to study behavioral aspects, the first project's aim is to elaborate the state-of-the-art BeOps literature in the context of PPC and to present the research gaps therein. Subsequently, the following empirical projects of this thesis will focus on one distinct gap derived from the literature review. The second project's aim is to conduct a BeOps study in the context of PPC with workload control (WLC), where the influence of order release decisions on workers' behavior is analyzed in a laboratory experiment.
