Societal and technological influences constantly change the interface between work and nonwork domains. In recent years, developments in the field of information and communication technologies have increasingly enabled the integration of work and private lives. In this regard, both opportunities concerning an improved reconciliation of work and nonwork responsibilities and risks concerning employee wellbeing due to reduced opportunities for detachment and recovery have emerged. This dissertation aims to contribute to a better understanding of successfully managing the work-nonwork interface. Seven studies expand the current state of research regarding the influence of individual, organizational, and cultural factors as well as their interrelations and interdependencies with work-nonwork integration and implications for wellbeing. In the form of a narrative literature review, Study 1 dealt with the current state of knowledge on the flexibilization and dissolution of boundaries between different areas of life as well as on potential influencing factors for successfully managing the work-nonwork interface. Study 2 investigated the motivational influence of individual and organizational factors on the integration of work aspects into the nonwork domain. Study 3 examined the influence of the organizational context on individual work-to-nonwork integration behavior and implications for life domain conflict. Study 4 extended the previous investigation of implications on employee wellbeing by adding an indicator of psychomental health. Study 5 analyzed differentiated effects on employee wellbeing due to the influence of self-initiated versus other-initiated work-to-nonwork integration. Study 6 broadened the focus to include the influence of cultural values on gender egalitarianism in reconciling work and nonwork responsibilities. A concluding discussion in the form of an integration of the study results brings this dissertation to a close. Based on the results of Study 7, which was devoted to the conception of a company guideline, practical implications regarding the examined influences on the work-nonwork interface are presented.
