Abstract (German)

Diese Masterarbeit untersucht die Beziehung zwischen dem Man Booker Preis und anglo-indischer Literatur. Drei Booker Gewinner, Rushdies Mitternachtskinder, Roys Der Gott der Kleinen Dinge, und Adigas Der Weiße Tiger werden hinsichtlich Exotizismus und Re-Orientalismus analysiert. Es wird festgestellt, dass sich die Verwirklichung des Exotizismus und Re-Orientalismus der Booker-verliehenen Romane von Magie (Rushdie), über Sprache (Roy), bis hin zu Dunkelheit (Adiga) entwickelt hat.

Abstract (English)

This master thesis examines the relationship between the Man Booker Prize and Indian Writing in English. Three Booker-winning novels, Rushdie's Midnight's Children, Roy's The God of Small Things, and Adiga's The White Tiger are examined in regard to exoticism and re-Orientalism. It will be found that the way exoticism and re-Orientalism are portrayed in these three Booker-prized novels varies - a development from magic (Rushdie), over language (Roy), to darkness (Adiga) as representation of exoticism has taken place.
